Man dead, woman injured in Rose Bud shooting

ROSE BUD, AR (KAIT) - A man is dead and a woman injured after an early-morning shooting in Rose Bud Thursday.

Police stated the shooting was the result of a domestic disturbance at a residence in the 100-block of Lowell Lane around 2:45 a.m.

According to the White County Sheriff's Office, James Valentine, 57, of Rose Bud shot his wife Julia Valentine and Michael Hammond during a fight.

Forty-year-old Hammond, who lived with Valentine and his wife, died from his injuries while receiving treatment at a Searcy hospital.

Valentine's wife received treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

Valentine was arrested on preliminary charges of first degree murder and first degree battery.

He is in the White County Detention Center on $150,000 bond and is to appear in court on Dec. 1.

The sheriff's office stated in a news release the investigation is ongoing and formal charges will be filed by the White County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.
