JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - More students face disciplinary action at Arkansas State University this year for alcohol-related violations; but the university says the problem isn't just located in northeast Arkansas.

Bill Smith, director of marketing at A-State, said the university is concerned with the increase of alcohol-related violations. He said universities have seen a trend in the number of violations in 2015.

"Within statistics there's a number bias and there have been changes the state approaches, particularly in alcohol possession for minors," Smith said.

Seth Howerton, an A-State student, said problems with alcohol can lead to other possible dangers.

"Whenever you go overboard, then it obviously poses a problem with alcohol violations," Howerton said. "With that kind of problem, I feel like more problems occur."

Smith said the university works closely with student leadership organizations to provide programs to educate students on the dangers of alcohol.
