JONESBORO, AR (ASU) – The march toward tip-off of the 2015-16 season on the hardwood draws closer for the Arkansas State University men’s basketball team as the Red Wolves held their first official team practice Friday afternoon.
The 13-member Scarlet & Black squad returns 10 letterwinners and four starters from last season’s squad. The Red Wolves have eight of their top nine scorers from a season ago returning, led by junior forward Anthony Livingston (15.9 ppg, 10.0 rpg).
“I’m excited about this team and getting back on the floor,” said A-State head coach John Brady. “It’s my responsibility, along with the players but mostly on our coaching staff, to get this team better. What we did in the spring with our work habits, our approach with one another and this summer into preseason has been really good. It’s clear to see we are excited to get on the floor and I’ve always liked our talent level.”
Redshirt-junior guard Devin Carter is among the new faces fans will see on the court this season as he is eligible after sitting out last season due to transfer rules. Other newcomers include junior Donte Thomas (Washington, D.C./San Jacinto College) and freshman Christian Davis (Dallas, Texas/Dallas Kimball HS). Redshirt freshman Connor Kern will also suit up this season after redshirting last season.
Prior to Friday’s first practice, select players and coach Brady met with media members to discuss the upcoming season. The focus of the first practice was heavy on defense and rebounding while enforcing offensive execution.
“There are three things that this teams needs to do better this year,” said Brady. “We need to be consistently better on the defensive end, we need to rebound it better than we did a year ago and we need to execute better offensively.”

The regular season begins Friday, Nov. 13 at SIU-Edwardsville with an 8:00 p.m. tip-off and the Red Wolves open the 15-game home schedule Monday, Nov. 16 with a 7:05 p.m. contest against Lyon College.
