JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Police arrested a Craighead County man who reportedly threatened to bash a woman's head in after they found him hiding in a closet.
Paul E. Durham, Jr., 27, of Caraway appeared in Craighead County District Court Monday where Judge Keith Blackman found probable cause to charge him with kidnapping-false imprisonment, aggravated assault on a family or household member, terroristic threatening, and disorderly conduct.
Just before 7 p.m. Saturday police were called to the 200-block of Redwood in Cash regarding a domestic disturbance.
After nearly 30 minutes of knocking on the door and receiving no response, officers feared the woman inside might be in danger and kicked open the back door.
Once inside the home police found Durham hiding in a bedroom closet.
Officers ordered Durham out of the closet at gunpoint, handcuffed him and took him out of the home.
The victim told police "Durham had drug her out of a pickup truck…picked up a piece of siding and told her that he was going to bash her head in with it."
The victim said Durham then dragged her into the house where he forced her into the closet with knife, telling her to be quiet or he would kill her, the affidavit stated.
Officers arrested Durham and took him to the Craighead County Detention Center where he claimed to have "taken a large amount of pills." Based on his claims, officers took him to a local hospital for evaluation.
At the hospital, Durham reportedly used "foul language and racial slurs" and tried to remove the IV from his arm.
Two hours later the hospital released him and police took him back to the CCDC.
He appeared in court Monday where Blackman set his bond at $15,000.
