Police claim suspect shot man during argument

BLYTHEVILLE, AR (KAIT) - A man opened fire on a Blytheville man as he walked down the road and got into an argument on Saturday, October 10.

According to Capt. Scott Adams, Criminal Investigations Commander for the Blytheville Police Department, Derrick Whitfield, 24, of Blytheville said another man shot him in the leg.

Whitfield told officers the incident happened at 8805 S. Lake Street. He said another man got out of a truck and accused him of breaking into a home.

"Whitfield advised that they both began to argue when the offender pulled a handgun out from under his shirt and shot him in the left leg," a police report stated.

Emergency crews flew Whitfield to the Med in Memphis.
