HIGHLAND, AR (KAIT) - Workers repaired a serious leak at Cherokee Elementary School Wednesday.
The leak came from the roof where the original building and an addition to the building met.
The main building is almost 50 years old and, according to Superintendent Tracy Webb, it needs some upgrades.
Webb said the school district used general funds to fix the major leaks for this school year, but the district plans to replace the entire roof next year.
"We hope to upgrade and modernize our building to make it look more up to date, in the process of making it safe and comfortable for the kids," Webb said.
The district will apply for partnership funding for the renovations by Feb. 1.
Renovations will include replacing the entire school roof and adding a new awning to the front.
