3 area students awarded scholarships

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KAIT) -

Three Rivers Community College racked up 3 student scholarship winners Tuesday Oct. 13.

The Three Rivers Community College Foundation awarded Tristan Hollis, Madalyn Smith and Cody Switzer scholarships for their academic achievements.

Hollis, 18, won a $500 Missouri Pacific Boosters Award to pursue his applied science studies at Three Rivers College.

A 2015 graduate of Van Buren High School, Hollis participated in Beta Club and the Student Council. He also played basketball, baseball and cross-country track, winning all-conference honors.

He plans to earn a bachelor’s degree in technology management with a focus on job safety and proper installation of equipment. Hollis says his career choice was inspired by the death of his father, Mike Hollis, who died in a work site accident.

Smith and Switzer received $500 Douglas Lacy Harris Awards.

Smith, 18, is a 2015 Doniphan High School graduate who finished fourth in her class. 

An active member in Beta Club and Future Farmers of America, Smith is now a business administration student at Three Rivers College.

Switzer, 18, is also a business administration student at Three Rivers and a 2015 Doniphan High School graduate who finished ninth in his class.

Active in both Beta and Spanish Clubs, Switzer also received awards for accounting and perfect attendance.
