JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

Jonesboro police charged a local man with possession of a firearm and possession of drug paraphernalia after he tried to throw the weapon away during a foot chase.

According to Jonesboro Police, officers arrested Dewayne L. Miller, 27, of Jonesboro Thursday night.

The report stated Miller was standing outside a home on North Patrick Street when officers arrived. Miller then ran off into a “highly wooded area” south of the home. Officers found Miller lying against a fence.

During a search, officers found a Lugar 9mm round in his right side pocket. Officers searched the area and found a Taurus 709 pistol, according to the report. Officers also discovered a black digital scale with marijuana residue.

A district court judge ordered Miller to appear in court Nov. 30.
