Residents of One Osceola Neighborhood Are Ready to Clean Up

Osceola, AR - Residents of an eastside Osceola neighborhood are ready to get down and dirty to clean up their streets. If you walk down their streets, you see trash and abandoned homes in every direction.

Members of the Hale Avenue Block Club say they're sick of looking at the mess and they're not going to take it anymore. They also say all of the trash and debris are signs of hopelessness, and it's time for a change.

"We're asking the area community to put stuff that you have around your house, junk, and put it out so we can clean it up," said community activist Nedra Cook.

A clean up crew of about 20 people will sweep through the streets on March 25, 2005. Once the area is clean they hope to inspire more change.

"We hope that other programs can get started for teenage pregnancy, drug abuse, wife spouse abuse," said Lily Jackson.

A number of people have committed to the community clean up effort.
