Sheriff: DNA evidence links man to rape, incest

HORSESHOE BEND (KAIT) - A Region 8 man faces rape and incest charges after state investigators say DNA evidence linked him to the alleged crimes.

Joseph Perry Morfield, 31, of Horseshoe Bend is being held in lieu of $50,000 bond in the Izard County Detention Facility.

According to Sheriff Tate Lawrence, Morfield sexually assaulted a female relative while she slept in the early morning hours of Aug. 17.

The Arkansas State Crime Laboratory recently completed DNA testing and, according to Lawrence, the results revealed DNA swabs from the victim showed to be consistent with Morfield's DNA.

On Oct. 12, Izard County District Court Judge David E. Miller found probable cause to charge Morfield with rape, a Class Y felony, and incest, a Class C felony.

Morfield's initial court date is Nov. 17.
