JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

A homeless couple looking for a place to spend the night found it at the Craighead County Detention Center.

Lisa Sue New, 32, of Jonesboro and Justin Michael Bowersox, 27, of Erie, PA are charged with criminal trespass after police found them living in a vacant house in the 2900-block of Wood Street.

According to Officer Susan Gray, the owners of the home contacted the Jonesboro Police Department after learning someone had been seen inside the residence.

Shortly before 2 p.m. Sunday, Gray and a K9 team went to the home to investigate.

When they arrived, Gray reported New and Bowersox were sitting on the front porch and the front door was open.

At first, the couple told Gray “they had been walking and stopped because they were tired.”

Upon further questioning, however, the couple admitted that Bowersox “crawled in an unlocked window to gain entry into the home.”

After clearing the home, Gray arrested the two suspects and took them to the CCDC where they were left in lieu of a $165 surety bond each.
