Jonesboro to Host Ozark Foothills Filmfest Tonight

MARCH 4, 2005 - Posted at 7:59 a.m. CST

JONESBORO, AR - Movies will once again be featured at 115 East Monroe Street in downtown Jonesboro, at least for one evening.

115 East Monroe is the address for The Forum, but longtime Jonesboro and northeast Arkansas residents remember when that building was once known as The Strand movie theater.  The Strand closed in 1969, and the 79-year-old building became The Forum in 1978 after being purchased by the city.

Tonight, the facility plays host to the Natural State Film Tour, part of the Ozark Foothills Filmfest.  Three Arkansas-based films, or documentaries, will play tonight at The Forum beginning at 7 p.m.  Included will be "When I Was Younger: A Weekend With the Beatles," by Jonesboro film maker Michael Bowman.  The film documents the Beatles' brief 1964 visit to Walnut Ridge.

General admission for the event is $5, with a $1 discount for students.  More information is available at www.ozarkfoothillsfilmfest.org or www.arkansas.com.
