JPD searching for fake gold bar salesman

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

All that glitters is not gold. What’s more, it could get someone arrested.

On Monday, Teddy Turner with Diamond Gems, 2404 Red Wolf Blvd., told Jonesboro police a man tried to sell him a 10-ounce gold bar for $2,000.

When Turner performed an acid test on the bar to check its authenticity, the results came back negative.

According to Officer Jason Bissett’s initial incident report, the suspect attempted to sell the bar to two contractors in the area before going to Diamond Gems.

Turner said he observed the suspect at a restaurant construction site next door to his store. Turner approached the man and “expressed interest in the gold to get the suspect into his store and test the gold bar.”

The suspect is described as a black man, approximately 6’0”, weighing 200 pounds. Turner said he drove a silver Cadillac Escalade with Florida tags.

Anyone with information on this case is urged to call Crimestoppers at (870) 935-STOP.
