Sheriff's office searching for tractor-trailer thief

CROSS COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - A tractor-trailer rig stolen from Cross County has been found. Now sheriff's deputies are searching for the thief.

On Sunday, someone stole a Freightliner and Timpte trailer loaded with seed from Rainbow Farms in Parkin, according to a news release from Sheriff J.R. Smith.

The truck was later found behind a vacant building in Mississippi. It had been stripped of its tires and was on blocks, the sheriff said. A window had also been broken and the ignition popped.

While on his way to process the truck, Detective Sgt. David Hallmark spotted a trailer in a vacant gravel lot in Tennessee. The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and license tag returned to the stolen truck.

Surveillance video captured the thief, described as a "tall, skinny black male with a limp," driving an SUV.

Anyone having information on the vehicle or the suspect should call Sgt. Hallmark at (870) 238-5766.
