TRUMANN, AR (KAIT) - Police arrested and charged a Trumann man with raping a girl more than 2 years ago.
Joshua Waggoner, 33, is charged with rape/person less than 14 years of age and criminal impersonation.
Investigators say the 12-year-old victim was visiting relatives during the summer of 2013 when the alleged assault occurred.
The girl, who is from Missouri, said Waggoner approached her during a nighttime cookout while she was "outside texting and listening to music on her iPod."
Waggoner, who was also on his cell phone, reportedly sent the child a Facebook friend request. She refused it.
Waggoner "told her she was beautiful and looked older than 12," the report said.
When the girl moved to a different place in the yard, she said Waggoner followed her.
The victim told investigators Waggoner "approached her from behind, put his hand over her mouth, pulled her pants and panties down, and raped her both anally and vaginally."
Waggoner stopped and ran away when a car pulled into the driveway, according to the report.
In March 2015, following a lengthy investigation by both Missouri and Trumann detectives, a judge issued an arrest warrant for Waggoner.
On Sunday, Oct. 18, a Trumann police officer spotted Waggoner walking south on Birch Avenue and stopped him.
According to the officer, Waggoner gave a false name when asked for his identity. He reportedly also said he had left his identification at home.
After receiving consent, the officer searched Waggoner, finding his wallet and identification.
After running the information through dispatch, the officer arrested Waggoner and took him to the Poinsett County Detention Center.
Detectives said Waggoner denied the allegations during questioning and offered to take a DNA test. Several samples were taken.
Waggoner remains in custody in lieu of a $100,000 bond awaiting a Nov. 9 appearance in district court.
