Red Wolves Hoops picked fourth in SBC Preseason Poll

NEW ORLEANS, LA (A-STATE) – The Arkansas State University men's basketball team has been picked fourth in the 2015-16 Sun Belt Conference (SBC) Coaches Preseason Poll, which was announced Wednesday (Oct. 21) by the league office.

A-State junior forward Anthony Livingston was picked for the 2015-16 Preseason All-Conference team.  Louisiana senior forward/center Shawn Long was chosen as the Preseason Student-Athlete of the Year. Joining Livingston and Long on the preseason All-Conference team by Ken Williams (South Alabama), Emani Gant (Texas State) and Wesley Person (Troy).

The Red Wolves garnered 71 points in the conference balloting and finished 26 points behind third-place ULM, which picked up 97 points. Louisiana was tabbed the preseason favorite with 119 points and nine first-place votes. Defending champion Georgia State garnered two first-place votes and 108 points to rank second in the coaches poll. Little Rock (68) placed fifth followed by Appalachian State (64), South Alabama (56), UT Arlington (48), Texas State (48), Georgia Southern (28) and Troy (19).

This past season, A-State produced an 11-18 overall record and a 6-14 record in conference play. After opening last season with three returning letterwinners, the Red Wolves have a more veteran presence this season with nine letterwinners and eight of the top nine scorers.

Livingston, who attained second-team All-SBC accolades for the 2014-15 season, averaged a team-high 15.9 points per game and 10.0 rebounds per contest. Livingston and Long were two of the 18 players nationally to average a double-double in all of NCAA Division I basketball last season.  Livingston averaged 15.7 points per game and 10.8 rebounds per game in conference action a year ago.

Livingston collected 15 double-doubles on the season and had 15-plus points in 18 games while hauling in 15-plus rebounds in five outings. He became the first player at A-State to average a double-double since Jeff Clifton in the 1993-94 season. His 15 double-doubles were most by an A-State player since Dan Henderson in the 1975-76 season.
