POCAHONTAS, AR (KAIT) - The city of Pocahontas is gearing up for an influx of new residents.
With Peco set to open up next year, a boom is expected in business and population, and the Randolph County Chamber of Commerce is trying to help those new to the area get acclimated as soon as they move in.
Director of the Randolph County Chamber of Commerce Tim Scott explained they are putting together welcome bags for out-of-state or out-of-country citizens who have decided to purchase a residential property inside Randolph County.
It's a program that started up in August and has already been very successful.
"Whatever we came up with that we think somebody, moving from who knows where, would come into Pocahontas and Randolph County and receive one of these bags from one of our many local realtors and that would get them started off on the right foot," Scott said.
The bags contain promotional items and information about the Randolph County area.
The first set of welcome bags was filled with items from more than 20 Chamber of Commerce members.
Each week, the Randolph County Chamber of Commerce gets in touch with area real estate agents to see how many new bags they need to give out.
Scott said the first batch of nearly 50 welcome bags have already been handed out. Now, they are working on a new round of bags to distribute.
Scott said they already have more businesses interested in getting promotional items inside the bags.
