Police arrest man on child porn charges

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A Jonesboro man is facing child porn charges after having inappropriate conversations with a teenage girl, according to a probable cause affidavit.

On Sept. 21, a woman reported to the Jonesboro Police Department that she had seen some "unusual behavior" between a 15-year-old girl and 26-year-old Matthew Kirby.

According to court documents, the woman reported the teen had spent time in Kirby's bed and that he had given the girl "foot rubs."

The woman consented to a search of the teen's cell phone, which showed numerous sexual conversations in which Kirby tried to determine whether the girl would have sex with him, according to the affidavit.

Kirby later admitted to police that he had the conversations with the young girl and said he began to feel their relationship was inappropriate several weeks before he asked her about having sex with him.

Kirby appeared in district court on Monday where he was formally charged with a felony for computer child pornography.

If convicted, he could face a fine up to $15,000 and/or 5 to 20 years in prison.

Kirby's next court date is scheduled for Dec. 29.
