JPD: Victims awake to find burglar in their homes

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Imagine waking up to find a burglar in your house.

Jonesboro police say that scenario played out three times in three different homes Wednesday morning.

The burglaries, according to the incident reports, occurred between the hours of 3:30 and 6:30 a.m. in the area of West Cherry and West Matthews Avenues.

In one instance, the victim told police she was in bed when she looked down her hallway and saw a man walking through her living room.

She said the suspect ran out of the home after she yelled at him.

It's believed the suspect entered the woman's home by prying open a carport window.

The burglar reportedly stole the woman's purse along with several pieces of jewelry.

In another instance, police say a burglar entered a couple's home while they slept.

The woman told officers her boyfriend was on the computer until 3:30 a.m. When she awoke at 6 she found that "someone had been inside her residence while they were sleeping."

The victim said the suspect most likely entered through a side door which she "believed was locked."

The woman reported several movies and her son's bicycle missing.

At 6:20 a man told police he awoke to "someone walking through [his] house."

He described the suspect as a bearded white man with dark hair, wearing blue jeans and white t-shirt.

When the homeowner challenged the man, the suspect ran out the back door.

According to the police report, it appeared the burglar removed a screen and entered through an open window.
