JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

A woman accused of beating her grandmother over a pack of cigarettes is in jail.

Detective Justin Rolland with the Craighead County Sheriff's Office said Rachel M. Wells, 19, of Jonesboro was arrested Tuesday night.

The alleged assault occurred Monday in the 4100-block of Highway 349 in Jonesboro.

The victim told a Craighead County sheriff’s deputy 19-year-old granddaughter, Rachel M. Wells, “struck her in the face several times with a glass bowl.”

The 60-year-old victim said Wells “started breaking items in her residence” after the elderly woman threw away Wells’ cigarettes.

After seeing what she had done, Wells reportedly left the residence.

The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries.

The Craighead County Sheriff’s Office had issued a BOLO (be on the lookout) for Wells after the incident.

Charges for Wells include domestic battering, second degree and obstructing governmental operations.

She is currently in the Craighead County Jail.
