Reward offered for information in deadly hit-and-run crash involving cyclist

BAXTER COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - A man riding his bicycle in Baxter County is dead after an unknown vehicle hit him. Now the sheriff is seeking the public's help to find out who is responsible and they are offering a $1,000 award for information leading to an arrest in the case.

According to Sheriff John Montgomery, Douglas A. Foreman, 63, of Mountain Home was found dead by a deputy around 4:13 Tuesday morning on Old Military Road (Baxter County Road 55) near the intersection of Baxter County Road 69.

The discovery was made after the man's wife reported him missing around 3:51 a.m. She said her husband was overdue since leaving their home about 10 p.m. on Monday to ride his bicycle.

A criminal investigation was launched after it was determined the man was hit by a vehicle.

Montgomery said the investigation found Foreman was riding his bicycle east in the eastbound lane of Old Military Road. A driver in an unknown vehicle was traveling west on the same road.

The driver "went across the center of the roadway in a curve and struck the bicyclist head-on," according to Montgomery. Foreman was thrown from the bicycle.

In addition, Montgomery said the bicycle was dragged by the vehicle down the road and through a ditch about 90 feet from the point of impact. The vehicle got back on the road after the bicycle was dislodged.

The driver did not call police and fled the scene, according to Montgomery.

Investigators believe the crash happened between 10:45 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.

At this time, the sheriff's office does not have a description of the vehicle or the suspect.

Montgomery is urging anyone with information to call his office. Anonymous tips can be called in to the sheriff's office at (870) 424-4636.
