MANILA, AR (KAIT) - A Region 8 bank wants to help kids swing for the fences.
Farmers Bank & Trust donated $15,000 to the Manila City Council recently for much-needed upgrades to the city's ballpark.
Randy Scott, bank president, said they expanded into Manila two years ago and wanted to find a way they could interact with the community.
Scott contacted Mayor Wayne Wagner who suggested local kids would benefit from upgrades to the community ballpark.
The money will be used to install a new scoreboard at the park, which will be renamed Farmers Bank Field.
"Children need something to do and a place to go play, and be kids for once," Scott said.
He said being able to influence the kids in a positive way is important.
"Sometimes they are put into an adult world and adult situations," Scott said. "We think it's important for them to get out and be children for a little while. We want to do everything we can to give them a nice place for them to play."
Scott said two additional checks of $5,000 will be awarded within the next two years for further upgrades, including fencing.
