Blytheville senior-living center gets grant to create new trail

BLYTHEVILLE, AR (KAIT) - A Blytheville senior-living community received a grant to turn a defunct playground into a walking trail.

The Westminster Village of the Mid-South received a $20,000 grant from the Kind Foundation to turn Candyland Park into a walking trail, according to Westminster Director, Linda O'Guin.

The park once had playground equipment on it that was used when the Eaker Air Force Base was there.

O'Guin said they came up with the idea to build a trail rather than fix the playground with help from the foundation. The park is now the "Village Trail."

"The residents have access to workout equipment at the trail," O'Guin said.

Loretta Heard, a resident at Westminster Village, is excited about the new addition.

"It means we have somewhere to go, somewhere we can exercise in the summer that's safe," Heard said. "You don't have to go out on the streets."
