BATESVILLE, AR (KAIT) - A woman has been arrested after police say she bit an officer who was trying to arrest her.
According to court documents, Chasity Egan, 22, of Fayetteville was arrested on Nov. 1 by officers with the Batesville Police Department.
Those officers responded to reports of a woman screaming for help at the Ramada Inn, 1325 N. St. Louis, in Batesville.
Documents show the woman identified as Egan was dressed in a bumblebee costume and was "going from room to room knocking on doors asking for help."
Police state Egan went into a ice machine and vending room with a bathroom that was being remodeled. A Batesville officer found the woman in the remodeled area on the floor acting "hysterical."
The officer smelled intoxicants on Egan and managed to contact a relative of the woman so she could be picked up.
Egan told officers she was staying at the hotel, but a clerk said she was not a registered guest.
At one point while sitting on a staircase, Egan reportedly passed out. Officers then tried to wake her up.
During that time, Egan began cursing the officers and causing a disturbance, according to the affidavit.
Officers told the woman several times a family member was coming to pick her up, but if she did not calm down she would be arrested.
Egan, according to officers, continued to cause a disturbance and was arrested.
While in custody, an officer was walking Egan to his patrol vehicle when she reportedly "folded up and went to the ground."
As the officer repositioned himself to help Egan, she intentionally reached out and bit the officer "through his pants on the inner section of his leg."
The officer received treatment at a local hospital.
Egan was charged with second-degree battery, a Class D felony. She is currently in the Independence County Jail.
