Church helps feed 800 families in need

BLYTHEVILLE, AR (KAIT) - Around 800 families in Mississippi County will receive a week's worth of food this holiday season.

Pathway Ministries in Blytheville holds an annual event called Ignite: Boxes of Love. The organization is looking to help more families in 2015.

The church partnered with Feed the Children in Oklahoma to get two semi-trucks filled with boxes of food and hygiene products. They will then distribute the items.

Pastor Danny Rigney said many local churches, businesses and volunteers are also helping collect items to fill the boxes. Collections began this month and distribution day will be Dec. 12.

Rigney said this event is huge for the community, especially for families who struggle during the holidays.

"It a real big positive thing for our community," Rigney said. "A lot of families are being blessed and helped throughout the Christmas season especially those that are having a little bit of a struggle by making ends meet."

The church also collects toys for children.

Families can receive a food box by signing up with the church. Sign-ups will be held Nov. 17 and 19 at the Blytheville Public School Service Center on Highway 18.

The boxes have enough food to feed a family of 4 for 1 week.
