My father always used to tell me... "the world is run by those who show up."
This Tuesday is a special election to vote on a new one-cent sales tax in the city of Jonesboro and Brookland residents will choose between a two-cent sales tax increase or water bill increase to build a new well for the city.
In the proposed Jonesboro tax, 7/8 of a cent goes to improve roads and infrastructure and 1/8 of a cent goes to economic development.
Having your say on these issues is important enough to have a special election. So what's the best thing to do? The best thing to do is to go vote.
Dale Carnegie once said, "Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy."
We as Americans need to exercise our right to vote especially when it comes to something as important as a sales tax. If you aren't planning to vote or aren't registered, I have a message for you. You lose your ability to complain about the outcome.
It baffles me that so many in our society choose not to vote . Do you realize by doing that you are actually letting others decide for you? You're basically letting others take control away from you.
Don't let that happen. No matter which side you're on, go vote. The United States is the greatest country on our planet because 'We the People' decide.
Do your civic duty as an American and vote. It will make this A Better Region 8
