Cox Communications' Cable Properties in Region 8 May Be on Selling Block

MARCH 8, 2005 - Posted at 11:55 a.m. CST

JONESBORO, AR - Cable television subscribers in four or five Region 8 communties may eventually be making their payments to a company other than Cox Communications.  The company announced last night that it is exploring a sale of cable operations serving about 900,000 customers in Arkansas and several other states.

The proposal is one of several options being considered to reduce debt and accelerate growth, as well as to offer new products and services for remaining cable operations with about 5.4 million customers, the company said.

A spokesman with the Cox office in Jonesboro referred all questions to Cox corporate offices in Atlanta.  There, spokeswoman Amy Cohn told K8 News by phone that basically, all of Cox's properties in Arkansas are being considered for sale, with the exception of some operations in northwest Arkansas.  Cox has four cable operations in Region 8, in Jonesboro, Pocahontas, Batesville, Walnut Ridge and Heber Springs.
