Region 8 police department using social media to help rescue animals

TRUMANN, AR (KAIT) -

A local police department is using Facebook as an avenue to rescue pets.

Police Chief Chad Henson of Trumann says they post pictures of animals found throughout the day to the department's Facebook page.

The animals are taken to the pound and have a 10-day period to be claimed or the animals are put down.

Using social media as a way to reach out to the community has kept people more aware of missing pets, Henson said.

By people having this type of service and networking through social media, they're able to find their dog, Henson said.

The chief says this method is more effective than just posted a picture on the bulletin board in the center of town.
