BROOKLAND, AR (KAIT) - Poll results in Brookland, AR show the vote for a 2 cent sales tax increase passed Tuesday night.
Brookland Mayor Kenneth Jones previously told Region 8 News that in order to keep up with growth in the town, citizens would have to determine how they wanted to pay for a new water well.
Tuesday night, citizens answered. According to Craighead County Clerk Kade Holliday, 146 people voted for a 2 cent sales tax increase and 37 people voted against it.
If it had been voted down, Mayor Jones explained that Brookland residents would have seen a roughly $25 increase on their water bills.
Votes for water improvement bonds in Brookland also passed. According to Holliday, 144 people voted for the issue and 40 people voted against it.
