5k hopes to raise money for kids in Jackson County

NEWPORT, AR (KAIT) -

A weekend 5k hopes to raise funds for children in Jackson County.

The Jackson County Junior Auxiliary is sponsoring the Gobble All the Way 5k on Saturday, Nov. 14, at the Arkansas State University Newport campus.

Jackson County Junior Auxiliary is a non-profit organization focused on helping children in need. The group does a number of events throughout the year geared to help children in foster care.

The money raised from the 5k will help support programs like Pillow Pals which provides a pillow to every child in the hospital to comfort them during their stay.

Irina Reynolds, race director, said money will also contribute to other programs.

“The money goes to help the kids in Jackson County,” Reynolds said. “We buy presents for kids. We get them clothes when they need clothes. We get them all kinds of things that they need, necessities, and toys and things they might not also get in their normal life.”

The Gobble All the Way 5k starts at 8 a.m. Saturday. It costs $25 to register the day of the race.

A Kids' Fun Run costs $15 for ages 11 and under the same morning.

T-shirts are included in the registration price but are first-come, first-served.

Reynolds said the course is around the ASUN campus and is certified.

If you’re not interested in running or walking, Reynolds said Jackson County Junior Auxiliary is always taking donations.

To help with the cause, contact Reynolds at irina_reynolds@asun.edu or mail checks to Jackson County Junior Auxiliary at P.O. Box 74 Newport, AR, 72112.
