Black River Technical College adds new class for firefighters

RANDOLPH COUNTY, AR (KAIT) -

Firefighters can now get an associate’s degree in fire science from the comfort of their home or office.

Black River Technical College added an additional course that is completely online.

The course offers all the general education and core courses for a Fire Service Administration degree.

This degree could help a firefighter move up to higher positions within departments without having to take time off for the education.

“It is geared for folks that are working in the fire service that may not have time to take off and come to a traditional college class,” director Alan Haskins said. ”They can sit at the fire station or at home and get their degree.”

Haskins said the college would like to not only target people within Region 8, but everywhere.

He said this is a benefit for BRTC students and the school.
