POCAHONTAS, AR (KAIT) - One of Pocahontas' standout softball players signed with Southeastern Louisiana on Thursday afternoon.
Catcher and infielder Ashten Graves will head to Hammond, Louisiana to join the Lions softball squad next season. She'll be a part of a team that went 22-30 last season with a 15-10 conference record.Southeastern is a member of the Southland Conference.
Graves put pen to paper surrounded by her family and classmates while several people praised her character and work ethic. "It was a lot of work, a lot of blood, sweat, and it just took a lot of traveling," Graves told Region 8 Sports after signing.
A common practice for softball players looking to advance their career's to the next level is to play traveling ball. Graves said she did her fair share of that. "I even went to a camp in North Carolina," she said, "It took hours and hours of just practice work, driving, tournaments, just everything."
Graves still has a softball season with her teammates at Pocahontas and will head to Southeastern Louisiana next fall.
