School launches app to keep students informed

POCAHONTAS, AR (KAIT) -

Pocahontas public schools launched a new smart phone app to keep people informed.

The school has been working on the app for about a year now.

The purpose of the app is to give students, parents and faculty a “one-stop shop” for everything that is going on in the schools.

Fundraisers, game schedules and scores, news updates, weather and school closures are among the many things people can find on the app.

Network Administrator Brandon Brown said the app will help keep all social media sites active. If an alert goes out on the app, it will also connect to the school's Facebook page. He said this way people without a smart phone can still get the same alerts.

He also said this is an opportunity for the school to offer something other schools do not have yet.

“It is also kind of a competitive thing. You know, we have school choice so it is one thing that we have,” Brown said. “One more thing to offer students as far as how to get that information, it is right in your pocket.”

Brown said the app is still new but the feedback so far has been positive.
