SEARCY, AR (KAIT) - The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation awarded the Searcy Fire Department more than $19,000 worth of protective gear Monday.
The department was awarded seven sets of equipment, which includes turnout coats, trousers, helmets, helmet shields and boots that will replace old and damaged gear.
The safety foundation said this will allow the firefighters to provide safe and efficient services to their community.
The Searcy Fire Department responds to an average of 700 calls each year.
The gear was presented to them Monday at a ceremony attended by local firefighters, Firehouse Subs Area Representative Jim Maxwell and Firehouse Subs Franchisees Matthew and Crystal Crawford.
Firehouse Subs created the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation in 2005 to provide funding, life-saving equipment and educational opportunities to first responders and public safety organizations.
The foundation has given more than $15 million to heroes in 44 states, including more than $260,000 in Arkansas.
