JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

Kicking a smoking habit can be hard. But Thursday is a day to urge help and support.

Nov. 19 is the the 39th annual Great American Smokeout in Arkansas as proclaimed by Gov. Asa Hutchinson.

"This year, tobacco users are being cheered on to quit like a champion," according to the Arkansas Department of Health news release.

The department states cigarette smoke is the primary cause of lung cancer diagnosis across the United States.

Arkansans are doing a little better about not lighting up. ADH states 24.7 percent of adults in Arkansas smoke which is down from 25.9 percent in 2014.

If you are trying to quit, call the Arkansas Tobacco Quitline at 1-800-QUIT-NOW for information on free help.
