JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A traffic stop early Wednesday morning resulted in the arrests of two men on drug possession charges.
Shortly before 1 a.m., while patrolling South Culberhouse, a Craighead County sheriff's deputy reported seeing a brown Chevy pickup truck cross into another lane.
After noticing the truck did not have a license plate light, the deputy stopped the vehicle near the intersection of Frierson and Nettleton.
The deputy called a K9 unit to the scene and, after a positive alert on the vehicle, found a container with three bags of suspected marijuana weighing approximately 15 grams inside the passenger side floorboard.
The deputy also reported finding digital scales and empty plastic bags often used in the distribution of marijuana.
According to the report, 29-year-old Brandon Edwards and 31-year-old Jon Burroughs, both of Jonesboro, "admitted to smoking some of the marijuana earlier and…knowing it was inside the vehicle."
However, neither suspect would claim responsibility for it.
The deputy arrested both suspects and took them to the Craighead County Detention Center to await a probable cause hearing for possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance (marijuana) with the purpose to deliver.
