New addition coming to Greene County Tech Junior High School

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

The Greene County Tech School District is adding a new building to the junior high school.

Greene County School District Superintendent Gene Weeks said the project is estimated to cost about $5 million when completed.

“It’s going to be done with second lien bonds,” Weeks said. “We did not have to go through the taxpayers and do a millage pass.”

The new addition is being built where the old high school used to be.

“It will be 12 regular classrooms, 4 resource classrooms, 2 computer labs and a media center,” Weeks said. “It will give us a lot of flexibility in the future to bring different grade configurations to help us meet our needs in the future.”

Four of the 12 new classrooms will also serve as reinforced safe rooms to be used during severe weather.

“As we move forward, we will continually try to get more of those spaces for our kids,” Weeks said.

Weeks said he expects construction to wrapped up in the spring and classes to begin in the new buildings by fall of next school year.
