COOTER, MO (KAIT) -

A Missouri man is in jail after his wife told police he shot her early Friday.

Pemiscot County Sheriff Tommy Greenwell stated the woman called 911 to the 300-block of Railroad Street in Cooter just before 1 a.m. She reported that her husband had shot her.

Sheriff's deputies arrived a short time later and found the woman had been shot in the leg. She was airlifted to a Memphis hospital. Her condition was not immediately released.

Greenwell said the shooting occurred after a domestic argument.

Billy Wayne Renfro, 63, who lives at the residence and is the woman's husband was arrested. He is in the Pemiscot County Jail on a $200,000 bond.

Charges for Renfro include armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon and first-degree assault, according to the sheriff.

Renfro is to be arraigned in circuit court on Monday morning.

Greenwell said the investigation into the incident is ongoing, but no other arrests are expected.
