Wynne community steps up to help local man

WYNNE, AR (KAIT) - The community of Wynne came together to buy a new bike for a local man.

Ginger Bates noticed a disabled man in the community needed a new bike to get him about town and to work.

"The old bike needed repairs. I had been watching him go over the railroad tracks and was worried he would get stuck up there," Bates said.

Bates decided to turn to social media to help raise money for a new bike. She posted a request for help Nov.13 and by the end of the day people had donated enough money to order the bike.

Bates presented the gift a week later. She is amazed at the quick community response with everyone wanting to help.

"We live in a time where everything is just me, me, me, and self, self, self, so it really does feel good to give back," Bates said.

Bates even had to turn a few people away because so much money was donated.

The community was able to buy a horn, lights, flag and lock for the bike as well.
