Lower gas prices give drivers cause for thanks this holiday

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

Whether your drive takes you over the river and through the woods to grandmother’s house or somewhere else this holiday, getting there will cost a lot less than it did last year.

According to GasBuddy, gasoline prices are at their lowest since March 2009.

GasBuddy projects that by Thanksgiving Day the national average will be $1.99 per gallon.

That is nearly 80 cents a gallon cheaper than last year and $1.29 per gallon cheaper than 2013.

Prices are expected to remain at or below $2 per gallon for the near future.

“It’s a trend we expect will continue through the end of 2015,” said Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst with GasBuddy. “If you like the prices you see on Thanksgiving, you’ll be delighted when Christmas arrives.”
