GOSNELL, AR (KAIT) - The highly respected Arkansas State Track and Cross Country team gained another member when Gosnell's Jessica Weiss signed her National Letter of Intent on Tuesday morning.
Weiss has earned All-State honors during her career with the Pirates and hopes to continue that success with the Red Wolves when she heads to college next year. "I'm very excited," Weiss told Region 8 Sports after her signing ceremony, "It's really an honor."
One big factor in the success of a runner is self-discipline. Weiss said that was a big part of her success. "I've been training since seventh grade," she said, "I've been pretty much running non-stop."
Weiss said the schedule for a competitive runner is tough. "There is no off-season with track/cross country," she added, "When you're not training for track, you're training for cross country. It's been tough but it's worth it."
Weiss recently was invited to the Arkansas/Oklahoma All-Star Cross Country meet. Only the top 25 runners from each state are invited to participate and she was one of the few that earned the nod.
