JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

When somebody stole his wallet, a Jonesboro man turned to Facebook to help him find the culprit.

Ronnie Smith told Jonesboro police Tuesday he was shopping for rings at Walmart, 1815 E. Highland, when he walked away for a moment, leaving his keys and wallet on the counter.

When he returned a short time later, the keys were still on the display case but the wallet was gone.

Surveillance video, according to the incident report, showed a woman walk up and “reach for something” then tuck it under her arm before leaving through the grocery side of the store.

Officer Jason Bissett was able to get a picture of the suspect that he emailed to the Jonesboro Police Department to see if anyone recognized her.

Meanwhile, Smith posted the picture on his Facebook page.

A short time later Smith received information that the suspect was Rebecca Sylvest, 28, of Jonesboro. He then alerted police.

According to the report, Sylvest “volunteered to return the wallet to the police department.”

When she arrived at the police station, an officer arrested her on a charge of theft of property-credit/debit cards.

She was taken to the Craighead County Detention Center to await a probable cause hearing.
