Jonesboro prepares ditches for deluge

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - With 4 to 7 inches of rain expected to fall this holiday weekend, Jonesboro city workers spent Wednesday preparing for the deluge.

Crews spent much of the day removing what seemed at times like endless amounts of debris from area ditches.

Bruce Spencer, with the City of Jonesboro, encouraged residents to be aware about their trash, especially leaves and other yard waste.

"Just try to be self-conscious about where you put stuff and watch trash in your truck," he said. "A lot of that blows out."

On Wednesday, the National Weather Service in Memphis issued a flash flood watch for much of Region 8, including the following counties: Clay, Craighead, Cross, Greene, Lawrence, Mississippi, Poinsett and Randolph in Arkansas; and Dunklin and Pemiscot in Missouri.

Heavy rainfall is expected Friday morning through late Saturday night.
