The wish of becoming an officer is granted

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

Jonesboro Police Department, Trumann Police Department and Craighead County Sheriff’s Office all welcomed a new officer Tuesday.

Thomas has always wanted to be a part of law enforcement and he finally got his wish.

Circuit Judge Brent Davis swore Thomas in as an officer Tuesday. He received three separate badges from the departments.

The rest of the day Thomas spent preforming regular officer duties.

He started the day helping Life Strategies Counseling and made his first arrest. The perpetrator was an elf.

Then Thomas went on to conducting several traffic stops, helping the K-9 unit and visiting the firing range.

He ended the day by solving a case.

JPD set up a mock crime in which Thomas used a cellphone to track down the suspect.

Thomas made the arrest and then took the suspect to district court, where he appeared in front of Judge Keith Blackman.

After Blackman held the probable cause hearing, he told Thomas more good news.

The Make A Wish Foundation is sending Thomas and his family to Disney World next week.

Officer Brandon King helped organize the day for Thomas. He said Thomas had a smile on his face the entire day.

King said he has no doubt the officers and deputies involved were just as happy to be a part of this day.

“This place was swarming with off duty officers all day who volunteered to spend their God given day off helping out,” King said. “It was amazing seeing the emotional reactions from all involved.”
