PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) - The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department is working around Mother Nature to make sure roads are ready for the winter season.
After days of rain, crew at the AHTD Maintenance Headquarters in Greene County got to work tackling potholes in the area.
Crew members patched some areas Monday and planned on hitting up a few other state highways on Tuesday.
Jim Howard lives on Jones Road in Paragould not too far from a pothole that has cropped up.
"It started off just like all of them do, smaller and it just gets bigger and bigger with the rains we've been having and stuff like that, it just gets bigger all the time," Howard said.
Howard said that most people know to dodge the holes but not everyone is aware of them.
"You're going down through here, 55-60 mph and you get to that pothole right there, you have to swerve to miss it," he said.
Howard said one pothole on Jones Road was recently patched up but he's glad to hear AHTD will be back out tomorrow to patch up another hole that's in front of Paragould Light Water and Cable.
