Local restaurant donating to children’s clothing closet

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

A Region 8 restaurant got bit by the 'giving spirit' bug and plans to donate a portion of proceeds to children in need.

Tuesday night from 6 to 8, Newk's Eatery in Jonesboro will donate 10% of their proceeds to the Jonesboro Kindergarten Center's Clothing Closet.

Brenda Graf, Newk's marketing director, said the Psychology Club at Arkansas State University asked if the restaurant could participate.

The clubs goal is to reach $1,000 for the Clothing Closet. So far, they have collected $800.

Tuesday night will be the last fundraising event to benefit the project. It will help provide coats for children who do not have a way of getting one.

Graf says working for a company that is so willing to help says a lot about its character.

Here at Newk's, we are always involved in community events, Graf said. The fact that we reach out and try to affect the lives of less fortunate or people in need; its just a passion of mine.

Thanksgiving is a time to be with loved ones and enjoy good food, but since that is not an option for everyone, members of the Jonesboro community came together to make sure as many people as possible were fed.
