Local business donates $1,000 to Family Crisis Center

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

Giving Tuesday had a local business in the giving spirit to support domestic violence awareness.

The Verizon Wireless store in Jonesboro presented a $1,000 check to Family Crisis Center, Inc.

Giving Tuesday is a nationally recognized day of giving.

Verizon could not pass up the opportunity to give to a cause that means so much, according to employee Lauren Pike.

The company participates in a program called Hopeline, Pike said.

Verizon collects unused phones and accessories to refurbish for domestic violence shelters nationwide. They also accept cash donations through the program. Pike said this is where the $1,000 came from.

Violence awareness and prevention is really important to Verizon, Pike said. We wanted to take today and celebrate that and donate the check.

Pike said the crisis center plans to use the money to raise domestic violence awareness.
