Local ministry in need of last-minute toys

BLYTHEVILLE, AR (KAIT) -

This is the last week a local ministry is collecting toys for needy children and they need your help.

Ignite Ministry in Blytheville lacks toys for their ‘Boxes of Love’ project, according to Danny Rigney, the ministry’s chairman.

The project assists 800 families in need across Mississippi County with food, hygiene products, and toys.

Rigney said the ministry is supplied comfortably with food and hygiene products; however, really needs toys.

“We serve about 1,000 students with toys,” Rigney said.

Rigney said the clock is ticking. Distribution day is Dec. 12 and the last day to donate is Tuesday, Dec. 8.

Every year, Rigney said it is tough collecting enough toys.

“One of the biggest things that we always have a problem with, is filling all the needs for toys,” Rigney said.  “Now understand, every kid doesn’t get 3 or 4 toys. They may get one or two toys apiece.“

According to Rigney, Ignite needs approximately 2,500 toys.

"We have a ways to go," Rigney said.

Anyone can drop off donations at any Southern Bancorp location in Mississippi County or Pathway Ministries, Church of God Ruddle Road, and First United Methodist Church in Blytheville.
