Wish makers to lead Jonesboro Christmas parade as grand marshals

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

One is a radio personality and operations manager for the Jonesboro Radio Group. The other is a Jonesboro realtor. Together, friends Christie Matthews and Danna Johnson are a force to be reckoned with when it comes to making wishes come true.

Both have been chosen by the Jonesboro Jaycees to serve as Grand Marshals for the Jonesboro Christmas Parade on Thursday, December 3. The pair are being recognized for their long-time involvement with Make A Wish Mid-South.

“It is truly wonderful to be recognized as one of the Grand Marshals at the Jonesboro Christmas parade,” Matthews said. “This has been an incredible year for Make A Wish and our community. There are hundreds of our friends and neighbors who give their time and talents, year after year, to make sure that children with a life threatening illness get their one true wish fulfilled.”

Best friends for many years, Matthews and Johnson have given hundreds, if not thousands of hours, to the effort since the Have-A-Heart Wish-A-Thon began in 1999.

Both women spoke to CBS correspondent Bill Whitaker for a special report that aired nationwide in October. The report was over a year in the making and featured footage of the Wish-A-Thon that KAIT helps broadcast every year.

“It is an honor and privilege to represent the collective group of amazing volunteers that so generously give back to our community in a capacity that has received national recognition,” Johnson said. “Individually we can make a difference, but together we can change the world.”
