Pet adoption lowered for month of December

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

Jonesboro Animal Control has lowered the cost of adopting an animal the entire month of December.

You can take home man’s best friend for only $65.

This fee includes rabies shots for a year and spaying or neutering your pet.

Private First Class Officer Mike Owens said they want to help where they can.

“Through the holidays there are a lot of people who would like to have dogs for their kids,” Owens said. “Maybe just saving that twenty dollars will help them a little bit through the holidays.”

While there are plenty of animals needing a new family, he said people should make sure that a pet is something they really want.

“Be sure if you’re coming up here to get a dog, just remember that’s a long commitment,” Owens said. “It’s at least a fifteen-year commitment. If you think you’re not sure or are hesitating, then please don’t adopt.”

He also recommended that you not go for the big surprise when introducing pets to your children.

“We would really prefer for you to bring your kids out and introduce them to some of the dogs out here,” Owens said. “I know it is not as exciting for them to open up and have a dog or a puppy or something like that. But you know you need to match your kids up with the dogs.”

Owens said they have hundreds of animals at the shelter waiting on a good home.
